Solei's Quilt
The front of this quilt is an African mudcloth panel pieced in the medallion style. The stitching was freestyle following and enhancing the sun flames.
The sun symbol on the back was appliqued. I quilted this with the back up, which meant loading the front with muslin borders to make the front bigger than the back. I used a rainbow thread. Unfortunately you can't see the stitching in these shots or the effec of the veriegated thread. But it is a lovely quilt. And mom really liked it. The bairn is scheduled to arrive in December.

Alfred's Quilt
We're back from our Oregon/Washington/Canadian road trip. I finished quilting Alfred's quilt just before I left. Binding is next. With the weather cooling the idea of putting this huge quilt on my lap to sew down the binding isn't as daunting.
I picked the black and grey fabrics from Quilted Cottage. Many of them have a bit of red in them which is the reason I picked the red backing for this quilt.
This quilt pattern can be found in Evelyn Sloppy's Strips and Strings book.
